It seems like our Western culture celebrates pushing. I think this is misguided. I think the flow state is much more enjoyable and effective in the long run. Rest is a natural part of flow...
Yes, I agree. I started getting into Taoism this past year and it stresses living with the natural world and flowing rather than pushing, which includes periods of rest. It changed how I thought about life and made me more introspective about ensuring I get enough rest. Thanks for your comment!
Yesterday, I wrote until past midnight and woke again at 4:30 a.m. to write a bit more before getting ready for work. Sometimes, I remind myself I need to dial it down and rest, but the urge to just keep pushing is usually irresistible. Until, of course, one's body shuts down forcefully.
This is a timely and important reminder for me. Thank you for sharing.
I know the feeling! I got less than 5 hours of sleep too and woke up earlier than I needed to to start writing before the day's responsibilities (and our Zoom class). It's really tough to pull back on creativity! Now, I try to force myself to take an hour rest for every five hours of work and that seems to help. Thank you so much for commenting.
Taking a rest an hour out of every five is a step in the right direction. Well done, Christie. Some of us need to take a cue from this and work out a strict routine for rest. 😊
I like the idea of sprint posts! I'm trying to do this myself and be more succinct.
As far as rest goes, it's helpful to think of it as an activity and something that we all NEED to do.
Speaking as an American, we look down on taking breaks and resting so it's hard to stop the negative self talk when I need it myself. But it's too important. Our bodies always "keep the score."
Yep rest is key. Less than 7 hrs per night sleep and my life quality, energy, mood, over eating and productivity drops by 30% each day. I totally agree with this post and just subscribed.
Advocacy for rest is much needed in this go-go-go culture!
Thanks! I agree. ☺️

You’re welcome! Receptivity is a highly active skill that often is overlooked.

Christie- Such an important yet underrated approach to health. I’m a proponent of rest and I hope people are too. So glad you brought this up!
