I love this article! The words of your shaman are powerful and inspiring.

It reminds me that the version I am today could never have existed without the past me and the trials and hurdles of my life’s journey. I fought to keep my identity too. When I stopped the shame and regret, almost overnight a shift happened. ( but you know “overnight” is usually a decade in the making! lol)

Cheers to you Christie!

Thanks for sharing yourself with us

What a great-and timely-article! After a 30 year hiatus from competitive inline speed skating I am making a comeback of sorts. 30 years ago my goal was podiums and medals. Now, I just want to finish my first race since the Clinton administration!

I hope you post more soon.

I'm so glad this resonated with you! I only took a short "hiatus" (although I still skated, I wasn't able to "train" due to injury), but it is indeed tough to adjust our goals and expectations. Thank you for reading and following, and good luck with your athletic journey! :)

Not gonna lie, that little video is pretty cool, I can just feel how happy and proud you were! But it's also pretty cool to read how you're moving forward from that perfectionism and finding new avenues and identities in life. Life is all about progress 😀

Thank you so much! This was such a huge accomplishment for me because those stages were heavy. Yes, I have been realizing I can move forward without totally ditching my old self while also appreciating who I am now. Thanks so much for your comment! ☺️
